What is 'djent'?

'Djent' refers to a particular style of metal music, incorporating low tuned, open note syncopated riffing and/or heavily palm-muted metallic-sounding power chords. It is regarded as a new subgenre of metal by some, but this is controversial. More information can be found in our FAQ or on Wikipedia.

What is got-djent.com?

got-djent.com strives to be the ultimate resource for all things djent. We aim to be a place where all fans of djent can discover new music, update themselves about what's going on in the djent scene, share experiences and insights, hear the latest tracks by up and coming artists, and much more. We also wish to offer a platform for artists to reach the right target audience.

Receiving over 500,000 pageviews a month, got-djent.com has fast outgrown its origins as a hobby project to become a point of reference within the djent scene, educating newcomers and keeping veterans up to date at all times. Through strategic partnerships with like-minded sites and contacts with bands and labels, we are able to offer our users high-quality content. Despite all this, got-djent.com is still a non-profit project.

got-djent.com is a community portal. We take the 'community' part very literally: almost all content is submitted by users. Content can be added and edited by all registered users, in a wiki-style fashion. There is a team of content moderators that reviews these additions and changes before they are made permanent, to ensure quality and prevent abuse.

This means that you can help us out. By adding your favorite bands and albums to our database for example. Or maybe you've got some djent-related news (about your own band, perhaps?) that you'd like to share - go ahead and submit it!

got-djent.com is a non-commercial initiative, managed and hosted entirely by volunteers in their spare time. It will remain ad-free as long as this is affordable. If you have a few bucks to spare, you can help us out with the server costs if you want. This site uses icons from pinvoke.com and komodomedia.com.

Who are we?

got-djent.com is run by a team of hard-working volunteers from all over the world. They watch over the quality of the published content, write news articles, conduct interviews, arrange exclusives and maintain the site infrastructure. The got-djent.com team consists of an administrator, a PR manager and several content moderators. You can recognise them on the site by their blue and green coloured usernames.

The maintainer and lead developer of this website, living in Belgium. He is currently pursuing a PhD in computer science at Ghent University. Likes it technical and/or progressive, and is on a metalcore binge at the moment. Plays the piano. Is a huge nerd and a language nut. Loves British comedy, high-level programming languages and kebab. Digs Oceansize, Katatonia, Architects, Scarve, Textures, Disillusion, Extol, The Dear Hunter, and more.

Clarity (content moderator, comment moderator) - clarity at got-djent dot com

Based in Ukraine. Currently studying and working simultaneously. Is fond of good books, especially science-fiction, and action/fantasy movies. Likes to write reviews and conduct interviews sometimes. Doesn't limit himself to metal or djent only; likes progressive/post-rock, electronic music and melodic metal with ambient influences.

26 years old, born and raised in the land of love and beauty. When he doesn't curse during his full-time job as a web application developer, he listens to heavy music, mostly technical and progressive. He falls in love with bands and artists with weird names and odd, unconventional blends of different genres, which almost nobody knows about. Beer and nicotine addicted, he likes to read non-fiction literature and mature reader comics, along with watching drama, political thriller movies and tv series. Conspiracy nut and full-time paranoid.

Dutch, born in the late 80s. Likes his music progressive or fused. Full-time biomedical engineering student with a metric fuckton of other interests. Reader of books, watcher of films, drinker of abbey beers and a ballroom dancer as well. Some favourite bands: Meshuggah, Cloudkicker, Devin Townsend, Chimp Spanner, B.M. Sharp, Karl Sanders, Empyrium, Ulver.

A sleepwalking Brazilian guy born and raised in Brasilia. Full-time student of public administration for the money and half-time music geek for the passion. Addicted to comedy shows like Family Guy, American Dad and the IT Crowd. Loves to know all the details involving drum recording and production. Likes his music groovey, melodic and heavy, although once the acohol kicks in everything works. Favorite bands include: The Strokes, Monuments, N.E.R.D and more.

Born and raised on the fair isle of Ireland Klonere "type(s) words and listen(s) to vanilla superior 2.0 samples all day". Currently studying International Relations in Dublin City University, Ireland. Musical taste based mainly of the TECHNICAL and BRUTAL varieties, also digs a lot of ambient, electronic, hip-hop and drone artists. If it's dark and complex he'll probably like it. Devin Townsend is "bit of a god" according to him. Big into Starcraft and its pro scene, he also enjoys reading history books, poetry and current affairs. Computer science student, ballet/contemporary dancer and quite the bookworm. Finds interest in things pretty much nobody else does. Likes dead and other languages, lucid dreaming, painting, swimming, guitars as well as candy and waffles. Bands she enjoys are: Katatonia, Neurosis, The Dear Hunter, Meshuggah, Ion Dissonance and others.

24 and from the Awesome land of England. Described as "Amazing", "Unparalleled in awesomeness" and "... simply the best person I've ever met" by his peers, he spends his free time partying, drinking and generally putting fun into other peoples lives. Because that's the kind of awesome nice guy he is. After stumbling into djent he currently spends his time working hard to reduce the male dominance of the genre, battling sexism, providing equal rights; "cause", in his own words, "we need more titz!"

The public relationist of this website. Likes it most if technicality and intensity culminate in le win, shown off by bands such as TesseracT, Struc/tures, Gojira, Uneven Structure and Disillusion - but is also down for some more mellow stuff such as Dark Suns and Pain of Salvation, or some straight forward Deaf Mepple like Bloodbath, Decapitated, Blood Red Throne and some obscure underground bands. Owner of the band promotion agency ProgHippie.com, freelance photographer and passionate for travelling and outdoors. Based in Switzerland.

Born in the land of choice, he chose to channel his hatred through metal music, and soon enough delving into the deep and dangerous territory that is djent (and other genres as well). Guitarist at heart - not so much at the fingers - he likes writing and recording his own songs. A genuine fan of all things awesome - drinking, computer gaming, comedy shows, and Vildhjarta - he is about to set on the journey of his life which is university. Also, he is Bergström's homeboy.

Living it up in a small basement in Canada. Jules has a huge love for guitar and any music that is mainly guitar based. He plays in a progressive funk band called 'Cool Cool Mountain'. Jules mainly listens to metal, and has an obsession with J-rock. He spends most of his time volunteering and playing the guitar.

An insatiable knowledge-seeker and avid musician, this native Oregonian lives and breathes metal and most of it's sub-genres. When not dabbling about in a fresh new entrepreneurial endeavor he can be found writing, playing guitar, racquetball and words with friends, the latter of which he welcomes all new challengers, so send him a message if you want a piece. At the ripe age of 20, he can out-wit, out-argue, out-smart, out-ego, and out-complain just about anyone. A biomolecular engineering and bioinformatics university student hailing from northern California, he fancies himself a cultured and respected Renaissance man for his experiences as a guitarist, vocalist, racquetball player, cross-country runner, student, and occasional gamer. Turn-ons: clean singing, cat-related things, fine foods, challenges, and a good smile. Turn-offs: everything that raises his blood pressure.
