Listen to Exquisite Machinery of Torture, Perpetual Black Second, and Dancers to a Discordant System, if you're looking for his "handy" side of things.

That is absolutely the point with Haake's drumming - the feet play the more technical parts that don't sound 4/4 while the hands play a constant beat that can easily be recognised as 4/4. That's exactly how it's intended

Words of wisdom.

Sometimes I feel like Haake could be mixing it up a little more with his hands. Bleed epitomizes why I am not much a fan of his drumming. The footwork is really, really good but everything else just pales in comparison. Perhaps he is trying to establish some sort of minimalist/sophistication contrast?

Its base is good ol' 4/4 but there are accents on backbeats, subdivisions on the guitars, and more.
I like this song it has a really fat pulse!

benanne: LIKE A BOSS

The main riff? There's 17 beats. If I was a jazz fag I'd tell you more in depth, probably...

what is the time signature. so hard to find the downbeat. maybe im just retarded but i cant count it.

(✌゚∀゚): Meshuggah never fails to impress me.

lol deez comments :3

You show 'em, benanne Wink

Personally, I am glad to see a massive amount of feedback on Meshuggah posts. Even if some of it is negative. I can see why some people would have the opinions expressed on here and thats fine....but hey.... love em or hate em - over 20 years and close to 20 releases...no other band on this site will ever come close to that. Keep it up!

I find it bad ass when the boss comes from around his desk and kicks ass! Bennane is one tough brother! By the time the spirit of discussion is done, bennane comes out the victor! No power display. Logic balancing.

The world needs more proactive bosses that aren't afraid to mix it up!

Respect Rude Boy!

i was reading through what people were saying to you and it kinda made me sick.

Amen to that. I'm starting to think we should start taking measures against people who outright attack other posters for not sharing their opinion. It seems that the time when this website practically moderated itself is now over...

its really annoying that whenever people have differing opinions, everyone has to attack them. ive never been the biggest fan of meshuggah. i just personally find them boring. when i see people acting like they do (i know pretty much everyone on this site loves meshuggah) it does nothing to make me want to keep giving them a chance. Despite what you think, fans have a big influence on how people percieve the band as well. case in point: juggalos. sorry if i offended anyone but it really does get tiring to see all this hate spewed at people with differing opinions. and just to be clear, i respect meshuggah immensely for spawning some of my favorite bands. i just dont find their music entertaining to me personally.

nothing to add....
absolute correct...

: / I can`t believe he posted that.

Right at 3:00, pure Meshuggah groove and layer stuff...

...says the man on got-djent.com.

not to be a dick here but tkajr7: "reading ignorant comments from meshuggah fans make me like meshuggah less...." read your comment again and think really hard about how stupid it actually sounds. fans doesnt take anything away from the sound itself -____-

..

reading ignorant comments from meshuggah fans make me like meshuggah less....

This album is going to slay. Nothing riffs with Chaosphere production? Yes please.

Also this whole argument about whether people are allowed to criticize Meshuggah is hilarious. The ability to criticize art is what makes it art, but people are fooling themselves if they think artists are doing this for THEM. Fans seem so entitled these days.

btw this album is clearly going to shit all over obzen which is by far their weakest release to date.

Wow, anybody who says any djent band could do this is dreaming. for one - no other Jens Kidman exists = the man is the voice of brutality. secondly, meshuggah dont waste notes to be tricky like tonnes of these new 'djent' bands. i remember in 2005 when djent was an actually word that meant the sound of a chug on DEI which was released in 1995. what a lame fad. cant wait til it dies and the truly great musicians that meshuggah are can stand further clear from the poppy bullshit that surrounds them.

I tip my hat to Sir Fredrik of Sweden for that solo. Long live \m/eshuggah

...Amen. Styx6sIk

Meshuggah is diferent...

U got to tune in they wormhole, and let the body and mind flow,in a state of trance...listen the lyrics with your heart...and be strong, face the music.

Music is freedom, and will be the last thing to be corrupted in 100% beacouse there always will be someone in is room making the stuff he likes and give to people listining...with no shitty label in the mix, this is important beacouse they make mess almost the time Smile

Djent is diferent, and can mix with alot of stuff,is like a new world order in metal...and maybe more,if the minds real open to new things...

Meshuggah is one of the masters, maybe the most deep of them...deep Hipnotic Djent...like i call them among my friends.

Its a trip rolling and rooooolllling, with the groove making your body slave to they rythm...and formating the corrupted brain we have,(thanx to our society).

When we forget the essencial of music we start to point the "mistakes" of others and be other anoying human that think that is mind is the center of the universe, and he knows and see all...MUsic is information, and freedom power, pain and happyness, rage and serenity...everything

For me music is my weapon...and i use wathever i like to use it beacouse i got freewill until i die... this new track of Meshuggah is amazing ,clean and strong...with no shits around.

Sorry my english and my deep thougts...but im tired of see people pointing they fingers to everything they dont like...make it better i say Wink

Try to say to a painter to change is picture...,that is thought, imagination and Art are wrong and poorly made... hehehehe

Without that painter the picture never will be know...beacouse is the one that imagine that...in that way

Just make better i say again lol Tongue

MESSHUGAH FOREVER

This song is great. I for one think the overall sound of (at least the two songs) the album isn't that much in familiarity with their other

albums. This is more raunchy than anything else I've heard. Can't wait to here the rest of it.

Long Live MESHUGGAH!

I wonder who's playing the solo.

People just need to come to terms with the fact that nothing will ever top I.

Another great track with their classic sound. Very groovy.

On the other hand, this band need to develop their sound more than this to stay on top I think. Nowdays this could have been done by any meshuggah-clone.

This new album hears to be more easily acceptable and digestible than ever. That's not a bad thing, tho.

I really dont know, why I dont like Lethargica. But that is actually the only song I really dont like.
No hard feelings please.
My favorite at the moment would be: Dancers to a Discordant System

Cheers

lethargica is a fucking godly track, y u no lyk

I dont really get this discussion but who am I to judge opinions.
A actually listened to the pre Nothing albums recently, since I wanted to get used to it again Smile Not that I ever stoped loving them. But the 2 released songs dont sound like Chaosphere at all. I mean... at all. I find it really fits more in the post nothing era, with more groove. Lethargica as an example is the lamest song they ever made IMO but its still on Obzen, one of their best albums. And is post Nothing.

And I still love Kidmans vocals

@nklottery: that statement isn't true at all. I don't have much affinity for this track or the other one and my interest in Meshuggah started with D.E.I.

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed since I didn't have any expectations in the first place, but it's an unfair assumption to think only newer fans would be disappointed. I'm sure there are and will be more than a few hardcore fans who won't care much for the new album. That's ok though. It's all just a matter of taste.

bet there are a bunch of dudes in sweden right now who are just legitimately excited about their countrymen legends just pumped out a solid new track. i'd be with those guys. this is a good, new track from a band i've loved for so long that it isn't even about 'djent', it's just about meshuggah. it's like a classic rock band that you love that's still pumping out GOOD music later in their career. this is everything i love in a meshuggah track; it gets my head bobbing, it gets my body moving, it's got dissonance, it's got a splash of melody, it confuses me, it's memorable, it's got me singing.....it's not my favorite track of all time, and i wouldn't say it's innovative but it's a good song and i think people that really like meshuggah are able to take it for what it is. it's those who are discovering meshuggah now or have discovered them post-obZen who are going to be disappointed in the track. to each his own, everyone's got their own opinion. seems like simply because this isn't pushing the envelope in any one direction, it's going to polarize the fans' opinions

so much wrong with this comment. every other djent band rips off meshuggah, and meshuggah has the right to write whatever the fuck they want, they invented the damn genre.

Hahaha, oh wow.

Nice grooves, really liking this one.

Having read the comments section, "Do Not Look Down" is definitely an appropriate title.

In all fairness, bennane is efforting a balance. A balance between opinions & comments. If it sway's too heavy, one direction or another, this site becomes a black hole. No chance for growth and selective personalities with limited output.

To love this song, is to love Meshuggah. If attention was given to some of Meshuggah's interviews over the last year, they said this album would be different, slower & groovier. Change is good, change is bad. This is not a gimmicky band. No clean vocals, no electronica, nothing but brute force in varying degrees, in crushing audio G-force.

These are Men, from another time. The inspiration of the djent genre...not the archetype. A stand alone judgement of a career that spans 20 years would suggest, respect. There's no sellout, Black album. No Diabolus Slayer Nu Metal sellout. No, let's get rid of our clean singer, so people believe we're harder then our made up debut album sellout, like Vildhjarta. Meshuggah...the only constant, like the agony.

Whether you love it, hate it, the cover of Nothing was the future
cover, of all of us, that can not maintain our need to tell the world...Meshuggah is crazy!

alright, makes sense. No reason to call them hipsters for it though Tongue In fairness I don't really get the "this album/track sounds the same as the last one, so I don't like it"-line of thinking either, but for some people it just seems to work that way Smile

I fail to see why people are saying that this is a new or different direction for Meshuggah. Fits perfectly in their discography. Me likey Laughing out loud

I'm not defending anyone's opinion in particular, I'm defending the right for people to voice criticism. I'm not attacking anyone's opinion of this song either. I'm just deeply concerned by the fact that some people here seem to think that criticising Meshuggah is not allowed. I think this is an extremely dangerous point of view. Nobody is exempt from criticism. Meshuggah aren't, and commenters on this website aren't, either Tongue

i wont get an answer with out trolling the shit out of this comment section hahah and that's really not my goal. so i'm just gonna stop and enjoy the music Smile

i don't know how you got that actually
if some likes everythmg meshuggah released up to this point, and suddently they give you more of the same, but for some reason you don't like it, you're probably a hipster imho.. i'm sorry, but i don't consider two songs a whole album, therefore your conclusion about my comment makes no sense

The point is that, because it sounds the same to you, you automatically assume it sounds the same for everyone else as well. This is entirely subjective. So calling them hipsters for it is arrogant, whether you realise it or not Tongue

Additionally, some people seem to appreciate 'progression' very much, meaning that they prefer for each album to sound different. Although that's a different discussion altogether, I suppose. (I guess I should mention that I'm not one of those people - I do appreciate something sounding fresh, but I won't dismiss an album because it sounds the same as the last, either.)

Tell them you're downloading all their albums, see how they react. Are you sure they wouldn't like your money? You're only kidding yourself here.

Why get so worked up about someone else's opinion of some music you happen to enjoy? What if they really think it is boring? What's it to you? And why does that make them hipsters?

shevagate7 wrote:

Couldn't agree more, but they're going to have to listen at least once to figure that out, and they might feel the need to formulate an opinion and share it on this website in the process. If you don't like it, then don't read it Wink

people have every right to criticize the songs, but i'm sorry, i just can't accept "it's boring" for a reason to not like these songs. it's just how meshuggah have always been, if you wanted a dramatic change, well, you shouldn't have. djent bands are good, but with meshuggah you know what you are getting, and if you don't like it, then don't listen to it.. and by the way, go tell any djent band meshuggah is boring, let me know what response response is lol
