Sphere of influence: Vildhjarta

31

got-djent.com's been around for over five years now, and the scene has grown immensely in that time - both in size and influence. A lot of new bands are drawing influence from some of the big names that started it all. Others are developing new styles, combining various genres with elements of djent.

In this new series titled Sphere of influence, we'll be showcasing artists with common influences and similar styles. For our first post, we'll look artists whose music is heavily influenced by Vildhjarta. If you dig their unique sound, have a listen!

Vildhjarta

Humanity's Last Breath

Sweden
Facebook

Vildhjarta aren't heavy enough for you? Try these guys. More deathcore, more brutality, more blast-beats. And BLEGH, of course.

Abiogene

USA
Facebook
SoundCloud

How about a little more melody? Check out the teaser for Abiogene's upcoming second album. Their debut even had a bit of a black metal vibe to it.

Vanora

Norway
Facebook
Bandcamp

Melody is also what sets apart Vanora's sound.

Maybe That's Why Humans Drink The Darkness That Is Coffee

Sweden
Facebook
Bandcamp

MTWHDTDTIC takes the sound way into avant-garde territory. With a name like that, we'd expect nothing less. Not for the faint-hearted.

Jonnah

Sweden
Facebook
YouTube

Jonnah are from Hudiksvall, Sverige, which is also where the guys from Vildhjarta live. Coincidence? I don't think so! Unfortunately the project is currently on hold.

Atena

Norway
Facebook
Bandcamp

Atena's take on the sound generally features a slower pace and a different vocal approach.

Through Lifeless Eyes

USA
Facebook
Bandcamp

Through Lifeless Eyes build on a metalcore and deathcore substrate, with regular atmospheric interludes.

Æons Collide

Chile
Facebook
Bandcamp

These South Americans are clearly huge Vildhjarta fans. That's great, so are we! The vocal style is quite different, but it works remarkably well. Keep an eye out for their upcoming album.

Indistinct

Finland
Facebook
YouTube
SoundCloud

With Norway, Sweden and now Finland, three of the five Nordic countries are represented. This can't be a coincidence! Indistinct bring melody and atmosphere. No vocals... yet! Look out for their upcoming EP.

We hope you enjoyed our little compilation of Vildhjarta-influenced artists. Did we miss any great bands that should have been on this list? Let us know in the comments! 'Sphere of influence' is something new we're trying out, so feedback is very welcome. We are already working on a couple of new posts in this series, so stay tuned for those. If you have a great idea for a list, let us know as well.

Shokran is another great band that would fit this list

Thanks for your feedback Smile The jazz one is a great idea, we should get on that! There are currently 4 more posts in the works, but it takes a while to gather everyone's suggestions and compile a strong list from that. The next one should be out soonish nevertheless!

Thank you SO MUCH for this post guys! You just introduced me to Abiogene, Indistinct, Aeons Collide and Vanora, all of which I am incredibly excited to hear more from!! This whole idea, the sphere of influence, is a great idea and could be done with many bands. Another fun sphere could be Ever Forthright with Clement Belio, Anomalous and ones who incorporate straight up jazz interludes into their djent.

Novelists and Kadinja have their own kind of sound going and I'd love to hear more bands like that...

Also, Sothoros is heavily influenced by Vildhjarta on many of their songs, especially Thanatos:

We are already working on at least two more posts Smile The next one should be out soonish!

This is a great Idea, please continue with this!!

Through Lifeless Eyes <3 Only USA band is from my hometown lol
Rochester NY THALL

Also, Nameste by Sequence of Discord is rather Thall af if you ask me.

Great list! Found some new stuff to Thall to.

Could have added some more, like "Terra Mourn", "Even Marea", "Make Me A Donut", "Disfiguring Jenova" or "From Sorrow To Serenity"

Check them out if you also think that thall is all.
THALL.

+ Modern Day Babylon

FINALLY found the female/male-vocaled band I was thinking of... definitely Jarty as fuq... I shoulda wrote this article!

http://thepandemonium.bandcamp.com/album/tyrannis

edit: of course they were a one-and-done band

The list for shuggah would be very, very, very long...

RXYZYXR, for starters, not exactly a clone but I'm pretty positive jarta was a major influence, and it shows.

Harkla for sure - Thousands of Machines - A very obvious jarta influence (as well as HLB).

Also, Megalodon is similar, kind of a hybrid between jarta and shuggah.

Good job mentioned Atena!

I still feel like we're missing a bunch... there's this one djent band with a female and male singer I can't name off the top of my head... they released an EP about a year, year and a half ago, was pretty good... very jarta... FUCK! It was exceptional stuff, was good on the light music and then going heavy.

Its none of the bands here: http://got-djent.com/category/tags/female-vocals
nor here: http://got-djent.com/category/tags/female-fronted

Nothing worse in the world than trying to recall the name of an underground as fuq band that was mint as shit......... and not being able to.

THALL

THALL.

Indistinct is distinctly awesome.

I was looking for some bands like vildhjarta ! now i find some !

i think if you´d make a list for Periphery or Meshuggah the site would explode Tongue but this is a great idea. makes it easy to find bands you´d like when you don´t use any steaming sites or radios. i´m definitely looking forward for more.

Great idea Smile
