The HAARP Machine

  • Al Mu'min - Guitar

The HAARP Machine (originally known as HAARP) was originally started by guitarist, lyricist and composer Al Mu'min on his own as an outlet for his creativity, with the intention of turning it into a full touring band. The name was inspired by some research Al had done on the work of the Serbian scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla.

Al recorded a few demos between 2007 and 2009, which got some attention but ultimately went unnoticed for the most part. Things soon changed once he contacted Dan Foord (ex-SikTh) in autumn 2009 to session on an EP he planned to release to gain his music some exposure.

Unfortunately, Foord couldn’t commit to being in a full-time band. His replacement was soon found in Craig Reynolds (ex-Viatrophy), who was initially contacted as a touring member but was so impressed with Al's material that he expressed an interest in becoming a full-time member. However, the band still did not have a stable lineup. A pre-production demo was released just to maintain what little interest there was left in Al's music, which was heard by Sumerian Records' owner Ash Avildsen. Ash then contacted Al and offered the band a record deal.

The band's signing to Sumerian Records was announced in February 2011, by which point the band had found a full touring line-up with the addition of vocalist Dom Sobkowicz and bassist Oliver Rooney. A provisional release date for the album was also announced. However, the album ended up being delayed and it was announced in late 2011 that vocalist Dom Sobkowicz had left the band. After this there followed a period of almost complete silence on the band's official facebook page, which left many fans wondering whether the album would ever be finished or whether the band was even still together.

In October 2012 it was announced that Michael Semesky (Ordinance, ex-Vestascension) had joined the band as their new vocalist. Alex Rüdinger (Ordinance, ex-Threat Signal) was announced as their new drummer, which came as a complete surprise to many fans (Craig Reynolds had left in July 2012 but due to the band's relative silence it was not revealed until much later). Their debut album Disclosure was released on October 16th 2012 via Sumerian Records.

“Our debut album is an amalgamation of many influences across the spectrum and lyrically addresses many of the socioeconomic and political issues in our society today. We hope it will open doors for listeners and broaden their musical horizons as well as spark an interest in areas that dictate our lives, but are swept under the rug to maintain the status quo and keep the populace aloof to the sick capitalist venture of the big money cartels. We feel very fortunate to be in this position and wish to use this opportunity to spread the word on social change via the application of the scientific method for the betterment of humankind. There IS an alternative to the un-sane society we live in and it is our duty to this planet and all its inhabitants to awaken the sleepers. We can no longer ignore the writings on the wall. The time for change is now.” (Al on Disclosure)

What is Al Mu'min up to these days? I love his playing, I gotta hear more!

Saw the HAARP MACHINE LIVE twice this year, with Chris Baretto... Whaou , truely awesome !! Abbdulah is a very cool and focused guy . The more i listen to "Disclosure" , the more I like this CD.

모든 장점을 골고르 갖춘 차세대 테크니컬 프로그래시브 메탈/데스코어

I didn't think "The Escapist Notion" could get better instrumentally.
I was wrong. Wow.

Snippets for Disclosure are on amazon, they sound pretty sick even though the album barely breaks 30 minutes.

randomly found this today, I assume it's their old vocalist

Ha, yeh...That's our new singer funnily enough...Didn't think that was kicking about still...We're working with him at the moment...

yeah i also seen that on facebook... here's hoping it actually comes out this time

Well most hinted that they had found a new vocalist, and that the album and tours is on the way.

...what is much more important: what's with their album? it's gotten really quite around here since their studio updates last year. Have they finally found a new singer?

Its a keffiyeh, not a Kaftan Tongue, a kaftan`s an overdress.

what's with the Kaftan lol

randomly found this today, I assume it's their old vocalist

seriously when will the album be published?

Still waiting for the album!

Can't wait for the new album.Solidarity to Palestine.

Does anyone know if this the same haarp band, Phil Anselmo was raving about a couple of years ago? I believe it was an interview on FUSE metal show or something.

Reynolds is an absolute beast of a drummer! Can't wait for their release. Drums are tracked, I know that much.

great things to come from this band

this guys got signed by Sumerian!
