5-String bass advice
Hey guys,
So i've been learning steadily for the past year and really want to get a new bass, my current one is an Epiphone Thunderbird Goth which is nice and all but the action really bothers me, it's freaking huge.
I've decided i want to get used to using a 5 string for the extra low end as a buddy and I will be writing our own music soon (mostly djent).
As it stands i'm at a cross-roads as to which i would like to get, i've narrowed it down to 2 but feel free to add your own $0.02 if you believe you have a better suggestion, my current selection will give you an idea of what i'm looking to spend:
Schecter Elite 5
http://www.schecterguitars.com/Products/Bass/Stiletto-Elite-5.aspx
Warwick $$ Rockbass
http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/produkt.php?submenuID=17072&cl=EN&katID=22911&linkID=47703
Of the 2 i'm leaning towards the Schecter because of the string thru design as well as being a neck thru bass.
I'm not adversed to swapping out electronics if anyone believes the stock pups are really what will make or break the decision but obviously if it sounds good stock then thats just awesome.
So in short, i'm looking for any opinions anyone may have towards the 2 basses and whomever may have a better idea which one of the 2 (or others) mught be best for my application.

Pretty sure neither one of these bass' will be considered...I need to get them out there!
Ibanez 5-string 'Grooveline'
Jens Ritter 5-string 'Jupiter'
Kubicki 5-string(prefer a headless)
Never been into anything 'Schecter'. Though, the Warwick's have always been a safe choice!
Good Luck.
The 'Jupiter' is a little pricy for what I think this guy is looking for, but the 'Grooveline' is an excellent bass.
Not sure about the Kubicki brand,
Also don't like Schecter.
Warwicks and Carvins are always great choices.
Hope this helps.
seem to be getting the "I don't like schecters" alot from online and in person but my question is why? and why are Warwicks trustworthy?
Still on the fence with this one, good and bad points on both sides.

i´m also not sure why schecters are hated. bulb used one for the periphery album - although it may have been a pricy one. with warwicks you can be sure to get this awesome defined growling low end. that´s why many people like them.

I think its because of the thicker necks Schecter have that make them hated by some. personally I like their necks. The only real thick neck guitars I like. I own the Hellraiser 6 and I want to get a 7 and would love to own a Stiletto 5. but right now I need to get other things with my money.
Sounds like the Warwick is what i want, that low end growl is what i'm after.
On a side note i'm looking to get teh kind of sound shown here:

Apart from having a musicman what kind of effects can i use to replicate this?
Atm all i have is a POD UX2 so if someone has any pointers for that or even a preset would be awsome.
....thanks again to everyone who's helped so farn

there is A LOT of 2.5k ish in that tone and I think I hear some 300 ish.
Are you referring to frequency? or price of equipment?.......i'm still a bit new to this stuff

frequency

I love Schecters. One of my fav company's for sure.
in that price range I've been impressed with the Ibanez SR505. Has lower action then most bass' I find and the neck found to feel great not too thick or thin and the finish is nice to boot.
As for the pubs they will sound good, people that change their pubs tend to have lots of experience and are looking for a very specific sound. I'd focus on more important things like amps and pedals before getting into changing pub's.
