A full playthrough of a fleshed out djent motif

Hey guys, it's Sage. Like I said earlier in the week, here is the play-through of that one motif I had the tracking video for. Enjoy. The mix is NEEAAAARLY done, but I am not quite fully satisfied yet, as there are minor kinks. Advice/criticism appreciated.

Also, this is an awfully compressed .mp3 file, so the actual mix sounds much better. I am 16. I have a bad case of tall-and-awkward mixed with a baby face, so I look sort of young.

i´m almost jealous. i just started off with recording around that age and naturally it all sounded hilariously messed up.

Don't feel bad, I had those days too. The reason I'm not still there is largely due to your tutorials.

Something embarassing actually, I didn't know how to program drums so I used a drum preset on a midi keyboard. I played awful, awful keyboard drums for my songs. Without a click track, so everything was off. However, that was like my first, first recording ever. I used AUDACITY XD

you did all this in audacity huh? ever tried a real DAW? i suggest REAPER.
as for drum programing its mostly observe a real drummer, program some drums, realize how fake it sounds, observe, program and repeat until it stops sounding fake. you can use drumcore free for drums, they're actualy pretty nice.

No no no, most certainly not in audacity. Pardon my French, but fuck audacity. This was done with Cubase. I was responding to Johnny about how I sucked when I first started out mixing. This is my least good mix in a while, and it's still not done.

I'm very impressed! Keep up the good work. I'd practice on keeping things tight, and you'll be well on your way. Even with a strat is still sounds like a tight mix!

Also, I think the images of the video or album cover can effect the way that the audience perceives the sound. And since my video gear is shit, I won't be making many play-throughs. At least until I find a way for optimal video-making to take place.

Any chance I could get a stem without the drums? I'd love to fool around with some programming on this one

may i ask how old you are? the overall mix isn´t half bad. the cymbals could be louder and the guitar tone could benefit from a bit more distortion. the ambient stuff in the background could also be louder.
