Do you hear that? Shhh!

Traveling the inter-webs, as I do, looking for new music, amongst other things. I come across, 'Darkstep.org'. A site, for the dubstep, drum 'n bass fanatic. As soon as I enter the site, darkstep music is playing, like nobody's business!
My question is: Can Got-Djent.com, as soon as you enter the site, be capable of playing music. A rotation of the free downloadable music, that artists offer? I wouldn't mind reading posts, and then, being caught by surprise, by a band, I either forgot about or didn't know was that good!
I'll get back to ya

Lol

I fully agree with benanne here, i personally find background music pretty obtrusive, it's like forcing something down the users throat they didn't ask for (not considering the fact that the choice of the songs to stream would always be pretty arbitrary), users expect web pages to contain useful information, not carry a tune imho
Not considering the technical issues and downsides of it, the unavoidable slowness and bandwidth increase, the different browsers and operating systems support for multimedia content, and more. Having background music was cool in the mid-nineties when the web was first coming together. Now it's not, it's considered dated and the mark of an amateur imho

I loll'ed because, I thought benanne, was kidding! Though, letting me know, he wasn't interested! I figured, music playing on a site, would have been like an artist, creating what piece of art he or she prefers!
I am no site designer, and must confess, I never imagined, there was a dated integrity issue. I am not bitter, but learned! I thought it would of been cool! Specific, non-labelled/unsigned bands, that are just starting out, having their music playing, for anyone who happens on the site!
Hey, if I never asked...& been crushed...I never would have known!
Say no more!

Jesus christ, no. Websites playing music still exist? I thought they died out in the late 90s.
Websites that make noise are probably the biggest faux pas in webdesign. We have some featured music on the front page, but you'll have to click 'play' to hear it. Opt-in, as it were.
