Hi, I've posted on here before about guages, But I have ran into another problem.... I have an 8 string and It seems to have spend mroe time as a 6 string, because I can never get the rright strings, I've tried all the guages people have recomended me, They just won't get to B without being to loose, or F# without being to tight. I've used the following guages. F#: 0.76,0.78,0.80.0.85 and B: 0.54, 0.56,0.65,0.75,0.76, 0.80. My 8 string is a Schecter Omen-8 which I got 5-6 months ago.

Well, as physics would have it, as long as length remains constant, you have an inverse relationship between frequency and mass. So, no matter what the convention is, if you want your string to be looser or tighter, just look at the math. Get a thicker gauge if it's too loose: you have to compensate for the decrease in frequency by increasing the tension. Inversely, get a smaller gauge if it's too tight. I haven't done extensive research on the subject but I know Ernie Ball goes up to .90 for custom gauges. There really should only be a problem if your F# is too loose; you can always get smaller gauges. Just have to keep trying until you find something you're preferential to, nobody on here can tell you what you're gonna like Tongue.

well, at least for me, for an even overall tightness on ''all'' strings
for the 7th .18 bigger than the 6th
and the 8th .20 bigger than the 7th

for example a 011 set should be
011-014-018-028-038-050-068-090
