help

So i'm a bit "runned over" by all these sugg. and gear recomandations WHICH ARE GREAT GUYS!! I would really like to send someone a sample of my present recording to get some advice how to move on from MY point without having the whole world listening to it yet
I've been playing around in pro tools for about 7 months now, and only scratched the surface.. i know it's rhe never ending story!.. i have recorded a few tracks but they all kinda suck imo ... specially soundwise haha
... I know there are some really cool producers here like ex. Joeyshoelace, Johnny Sn. .. but i'm not going for a test mix with dollars out of pocket yet
.. just some personal
advice on what MY next step would be with my tracks in terms of level adj. and so on! .. I'm considering buying Izotope Ozone 5 .. but i think i need to know the basics in mixing to get my tracks ready for mastering! .. I do read/follow all the turorials here on the site.. but i would really like someones opinion.
.. anyone?

well youre right
.. how do i upload a sample ... maybe soundcloud? (I will make an account) How do i upload from pro tools 9 to soundcloud? ... pt 10 has direct bounce to soundcloud - not pt 9!
Gear: Imac, pt 9, mbox 3, krk rokit 5, pod x3 live (sorry joey .. hehe) superior drummer, ibanez rg2228, ibanez btb675, redwine, frustration & beer

the last three got me laughing.
i suggest you just render a sample as mp3 with a higher bit rate (like 320kbps) and upload that to soundcloud. that´s good ´nuff to check what the situation is there.

thats was their upgrade for PT10.. pointless if you ask me. then again i do more "pro" like mixing where I can't upload over the net for the world to see.
anywho if you would like additional ears but don't want the world to see quite just yet you can always shoot me a PM with a link to your song I'll take a listen and give some advice. or even have some questions feel free to ask.
I say not to worry about getting Ozone for now, get more mixing plugins. focus on that beast first and get good at it then mastering will be a bit less of a mountain to get a grasp of.

great!! ..(Joey) So if i covert to an big bit rate mp3 and send it in a pm? .. (Johnny) If joey soils himself laughing then i'll wait uploading - otherwise i will be sure to tell when a sample is online
I really respect both you guys for the work and time you are spending on helping novices like me.. especially hopeless novices like me

i used to be a hopeless novice like you, but than i took an arrow to the knee.
i´m sorry but you just set me up for that one

I prefer wav files but a 320 mp3 will do for quick listens. If you want me to go over board super ear on the mix like I do when I'm studying pro mix's then send me a wav.

You could always just dropbox the files in some online storage site and PM us links.

going for the gear this weekend guys

Congrats on entering the world of private recording
Now, it's kinda hard to help if we don't know what you're using to make/do/record your stuff, and without a sound sample, the well into which you've thrown us just gets deeper!
Firstly, Pro Tools is a great DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) favored by many around here. It's really powerful and easy to use - I don't have access to it, so someone else may be able to help you with Pro Tools specific things. That said, I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that Pro Tools does include some way to master your tracks, however rudimentary. Personally, I use Adobe Soundbooth to master, but mastering software preference varies wildly from person to person as there are so many simple .wav editors out there. Maybe the thing to do would be to get some good monitors if you don't already have some and hold out for Ozone until you are sure that it is exactly the software that will fulfill your needs.
Mixing is a cruel art; tricky for some and easy for others. Being a skilled listener is an important factor, and being able to do your mixes on competent hardware is another.
So, here are a few general things that I (and others) have picked up about the recording process that may help you.
I'm sure you've seen these by now; Joey's online book and JohnnyShnizz's video tutorials. Great stuff there.
Best of luck mate! Keep up the hard work and we're looking forward to hearing something from you soon!
