Research on Djent

Hello, I'm doing a yearpaper on djent and I could use some help. I was wondering if anyone has done any profound research on djent and if they could share it. I'm especially intrested in the lyric's meanings.

But.. what have lyric meanings to do with a guitar tone/playing style? There is no such thing as a 'djent lyric', every band has different lyrics. Hell 50% of the djent bands don't even have vocalists haha
One could still try to find out if there are lyrical themes that are used especially often in djent.

Certain lyrical themes (scifi, space, ...) do seem to be more popular than others among djent bands, but not to the extent that this should be considered a characteristic of the style, I would agree.
Maybe the results of the survey we recently conducted could be helpful:

Yep, I was hoping to get some different themes, which are characteristic to djent, if anyone has an opinion about a certain djent band's lyrics, please share it !
sharing's caring

I can just smell a space-themed deathcore joke coming.

not retold lyrically, but ONAN creates instrumental concept albums. The initial two releases were environment based concepts, the EP was a conceptual dedication to fans, while the last album was based around literature (Stephen king's the dark tower, Stephen Donaldson's chronicles of Thomas covenant, the unbeliever). A new album set for later this year is to be based on a fantasy screenplay written by Andrew graham and will feature vocals and lyrics performed by guest artist Caroline Boucher.

You should shoot a PM to this guy.

ONAN with vocals? That's something I have to hear!
defiantly don't see much for lyrical themes for djent that I'd classify as characteristic. its seems more characteristic for a djent artist/bands to not have lyrics.
