On Impact: When they say "Impact", you'll feel it
I recently read through the editors' picks for best albums (whether up for free download or not) that didn't make this last year's top albums of 2011. I saw a lot of names that I had seen but hadn't really followed through with downloading their stuff, and "On Impact" was one of them. I saw the description on the page, that they fused all sorts of musical styles into their metal combo (seeing as it was created by two people), and it peaked my interest. The purple cover harboring a dinosaur was even more convincing that this wasn't going to be a run of the mill, ordinary album. Man, that isn't even the half of it.
Basically, right from the first track, Psybeam, you know it's not gonna let up in awesome. An atmospheric chord progression that eases the listener in a much heavier, more groovy riff. Contrasts like these are a plenty in this album. It's like getting that awesome food that's both sweet and spicy, giving you both ends of the flavor spectrum at the same time. "Meltdown" takes the listener across the world to some Asian community during the morning Tai Chi, and then throws it away for some more metal to confuse the listener even further. Honestly, this album does exactly what the group wanted to accomplish, and that is a seamless blend of different musical styles and ideas with metal as a kind of glue binding it all together. It's not just a random hodge-podge of ideas like my Soundcloud page, but a directed, focused album that's a unique experience the whole way through. Songs like "ROFLcopter" and "Penguins Are Always Dressed Well" have a tapestry of expertly woven riffs that, played separately, would normally seem unable to be combined. But "On Impact" does a great job keeping the songs moving and developing without abruptly halting their ideas to move into the next one. Groovy, moving lines give way to beautiful melodic, atmospheric lines that allow the listener absorb the song with all of the senses (you know those riffs that just sound so good they almost taste just as good? No? Maybe I should see a doctor....)
Anyway, bottom line is this band is as quirky and inventive with their presentation of their group as they are with the content of their music. The editors for got-djent.com definitely picked a winner when highlighting more releases that deserve the public's attention. If you need new ideas for riffs, or just new music in general for your collection, you have no excuse not to pick up this FREE (that's right, free) album.

Thanks a lot for this kind review of my band's work. Austin and I set out to make an album that is a bit more positive sounding (like happy major chords and such) and all over the place just because that's how we roll. Thanks again!
